Don't Look Past The Buckeyes
When the Ohio State Buckeyes and USC Trojans take the field this Saturday for the most anticipated game of the college football season, a lot will be at stake. With both squads ranked in the top five, a win here will give one of the team's a nice lead in the race for the BCS Title game. A victory can [read more...]
BCS Busted
In this week's Associated Press college football poll, there are some very interesting details. USC jumped from number three last week to number one, even though the two teams previously in front of them both won by multiple touchdowns. More than one-fifth of the teams, six total, are from the SEC. Only one team that lost their opener is ranked, [read more...]
Ten Big Questions for the College Football Season - Part 2
Is the worst behind Notre Dame? Fans of the Fighting Irish have been surprisingly quiet the past twelve months. Why? Because ND was downright horrible in 2007. The Irish went 3-9 last year, and even that record makes them look better than they actually were. Notre Dame averaged 16.4 points per game last year, which ranked 117th out of 120 NCAA [read more...]
Ten Big Questions for the College Football Season - Part 1
1- Do we have to see Ohio State in the National Title game again? After the 2007 game, where OSU lost 41-14 to Florida, critics said that it was a difference in speed that resulted in the Buckeyes defeat. Last season, after LSU pounded them 38-24, those same critics said it was a lack of preparation [read more...]
The Windy City Olympics?
Imagine for a moment that it's the summer of 2016. President Barack Obama is in his final months of office, and his successor as Illinois senator, Mr. Kanye West, is now out on the campaign trail, along with his slogan, "If you ain't no punk, holla WE WANT HEALTH CARE". The CTA construction is finally over, and Brett Favre is [read more...]
The Not So Dream Team
There's good basketball, like the way the Kansas Jayhawks shared the ball this season on their way to the NCAA Title. There's great basketball, which was found all spring long when the Boston Celtics were playing beautiful team defense on their way to winning the NBA Finals. But there has never been, in the 117 years since Dr. James Naismith [read more...]
Big Ten Preview
Big Ten football is a lot like American Idol. It may be good, it may be bad, but whatever it is, a lot of people are going to watch and talk about it. Last year, the conference sent two teams to BCS bowls, two others to New Years Day bowls and produced the number one pick in the April NFL [read more...]
The Real Problem
Remember the 1997 film "Wag the Dog", starring Dustin Hoffman as a Washington, DC public relations executive and Robert De Niro as a Hollywood director? The plot involves a President who needs to cover up a sex scandal to be re-elected, so he calls on Hoffman and De Niro to create a fake war to divert the media focus. Soon [read more...]
Panic Attack
I can't speak for how other baseball teams work, because I have only been a part of one fanbase in my life. But when it comes to real Cubs fans, there are two distinct types: the ones who believe 'This is our year' and the ones who ask 'When is my next nervous breakdown gonna happen?' (Of course there are [read more...]
Feeding the Football Fix
My calendar tells me it's mid-July, the dog days of summer. In the sports world, that means baseball's trade deadline is right around the corner, NFL training camps will be popping up any day now, and the Olympics begin in only a few weeks. We just finished watching a historic NBA Finals, a classic Wimbledon final, and a never-ending MLB [read more...]
Website Poll
Poker sites for US players are somewhat hard to come by these days. Aside from the big ones, PokerStars and Full Tilt, mainly smaller, fairly unknown sites are available to Americans. It s a good idea to read a poker room review before you sign up with a site you don t know very much about.
