Closing Time
They say a bad day in Florida beats a good day just about anywhere else. After this series, I'd be inclined to say that's just not true. The Cubs had three bad days in Florida - or at least three days where the Marlins had better ones. When the Cubs came marching into Dolphin Stadium, riding the wave of winning ten [read more...]
Hope Springs from Halas
There is a great danger in the human proclivity towards hope. Though it keeps the fires burning, when hope is washed away, all that is left is the stink of despair. But like a lover in an abusive relationship, humans keep finding ways to hope again, even after being crushed repeatedly by the failed realities of the cruel world. No other [read more...]
No Cowboy-ing Up for Bears
My grandfather thought he was a pretty funny guy. Truth be told, he was hilarious - at times. And one of his favorite jokes revolved around a simple question: "Why do you keep hitting yourself in the head with a hammer?""Because it feels good when you stop." Lovie Smith and company had a different running gag on Sunday night when talking [read more...]
Counting Chickens in Cubdom
It appears that nothing can go wrong for this Cubs team right now. Jason Marquis exited after less than three innings on Friday, after giving up seven runs, and what happens? The bullpen gives up only a solo homer in the ninth, and Aramis Ramirez hits two three-run bombs as part of a 13-run effort.Saturday starts off with the Cubs [read more...]
Lou Leading Last Lap
If the last seven games are any indication of how the Cubs do against teams dressed in red and white, they need to cross their fingers and hope they see the Phillies in the playoffs. After going 3-1 in St. Louis and kicking off the final home stand of the season with a 2-1 series victory over the Cincinnati Reds, the [read more...]
Devin “???” Hester
What's in a name?If you're O.J. Simpson, you're probably wishing that the people selling Streetwise on the corner of Washington and State in downtown Chicago didn't know it. (Have you heard the one about how many letters are in the alphabet... no? 26 would be wrong. It's actually 22. ET went home and O.J.'s in jail. But I digress.) Watching the Monday [read more...]
Nothing Sexy About Rexy
The problem with putting lipstick on a pig is that you've got to pick the right color.Midnight Red? Elegant Rose? Violet? Gloss? The possibilities are endless and the decision crucial. After all, you're trying to make 500 pounds of bristle-haired, truffle-eating, mud-bathing nastiness disappear. Then there's the whole matter of getting the pig to sit still long enough to apply the [read more...]
Heading Down the (Away) Stretch
The Cubs spent much of the series relying on their bullpen as they took two of three from the Astros at Minute Maid Park. If only baseball games were just five innings, this past series at Houston would have been far more satisfying. Outscoring the 'Stros 12-5 in innings one through five, but being taken 3-1 in the back four [read more...]
Achilles Brown
"And then Achilles rose up, donned the new armor that his mother had brought, fresh from the forges of the god Hephaistos, and plunged back into battle, routing the Trojans and slaying Hector, their general and the oldest son of King Priam.Soon thereafter it was Achilles turn to die, at the hands of Paris, Hector's brother, who pierced his heel [read more...]
Shuffling the Deck
Pittsburg might be the city of three rivers, but the only river that was flowing for the Cubs this weekend was called Big 'Z'. Giving up just one run on two hits over six innings on Saturday night, Carlos Zambrano returned to his July form against the Pittsburg Pirates. That was one of the only feathers the Cubs had to [read more...]

Website Poll
Poker sites for US players are somewhat hard to come by these days. Aside from the big ones, PokerStars and Full Tilt, mainly smaller, fairly unknown sites are available to Americans. It s a good idea to read a poker room review before you sign up with a site you don t know very much about.
